Hello, class. I'm Zac. Thank you for having me. Today I'm going to tell you about my job. I'm a smokejumper. Do you know what it is? I'll tell you.
Just imagine, there is a remote forest in a fire somewhere, and nobody's around to put the fire out. Screaming animals and birds are emerging. And then we appear. We parachute out of a plane to put an end to the disaster. We bring special tools and equipment for firefighting.
These duties aren't so easy. To be a smokejumper you have to be very fit. We train a lot, 'cos it is the only way to be able to work for long hours in difficult conditions. If you've ever thought of joining smokejumpers, you have to be able to read maps pretty well and be a well-trained parachutist. Since you are, you will get a padded jump jacket and trousers, boots, gloves, a face mask, and a helmet. And don't forget about a backpack with some food and water.
I bet you think this job is very dangerous, but, you know, it keeps me happy. Jumping out of the airplane and flying through the air is everything for me. I just don't want any other job in the world.
