Detective story is the most popular kind of fiction all over the world. I enjoy reading detective stories very much. My favorite detective is Sherlock Holmes.
My favorite literary character is Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes

This character was created by Arthur Conan Doyle who was a doctor by profession but his hobby was to write detective stories about Sherlock Holmes. Between 1997 and 1895 Arthur Conan Doyle wrote twenty-six stories about Sherlock Holmes and then the author decided to kill his hero. But the readers were so upset about it that the author had to continue writing Sherlock Holmes stories for another twenty-five years.

Sherlock Holmes is not only a talented detective but he is also a very interesting person. He likes boxing and playing violin. He uses deductive method to solve a crime. Even a look at a person can tell Sherlock a lot about this person’s life and his character. Holmes’ main advisers are logic and common sense. He is always reserved and calm and does not believe in superstitious. His friend Dr. Watson always wonders how Holmes manages to find out the truth.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson

Sherlock Holmes combines the incredible power of observation with simple human weaknesses. And this combination gives the character a special charm. He can be lazy sometimes staying in bed and smoking a pipe all day long or be very active and energetic going to the other part of London to inspect the crime scene. He always solves the crime brilliantly. He seems to have a supernatural insight, but his explanations are always simple. And Dr. Watson accepts that all the details are very important in each case and they help Sherlock to catch the criminal.

I think that Sherlock Holmes is a very captivating character. And I dream one day to visit his museum in Baker Street in London where, according to the book, he lived.
