I would like to tell you about a BBC News video about a shopping mall in Sweden (Escilstuna, near Stockholm) where everything is recycled. The BBC World Service even devoted to this mall a whole "People Fixing the World" podcast episode. In that two minute video report we can learn about ReTuna mall - a Swedish economical miracle. Every item there is second-hand; sometimes they upcycle certain used things in order to give them a new purpose to sell more effectively. For example, there is a lamp shade made from worn-out leather jackets, it looks just as beautiful as unusual and even a little bit unique. Anna Bergström, the mall manager, explains that their shop is really popular in Sweden because it doesn't only give owners the wanted profit, but also saves our planet. There are 14 spesialist shops and a design school hosted at the mall, where all the things that are garbage for some people find their reincarnations as handmade decorations. In 2018 the mall sold second-hand goods worth 1.3 million dollars meaning anwanted items - that were to be stocked in a recycling centre near this mall - found new homes.
In my opinion, this mall is the great example of how economics can be successfully profitable while being eco-friendly and useful for the society.
