Dear Sirs,

I'm writing to protest against a new shopping mall construction on Church street.

First of all, there are way too many shopping centres in our town as it is. As a governing body you should have noticed by now that culture and education in Stoke-on-Trent are in decline while the favourite form of entertainment is shopping. People are encouraged to consume more and more. This is unhealthy and has to stop.

Secondly, the new shopping mall is planned to be constructed right next to the Stoke Minster. This is outrageous for a number of reasons, one of them being the destruction of the cityscape. The minster dates back to the 7th century and it has arranged and influenced the architecture around it for hundreds of years. The concrete block of the mall will ruin the view forever.

To sum it up, I would like to stress that building yet another shopping mall in our town is unacceptable. As a life-long citizen of Stoke-on-Trent, I hereby formally protest the construction.

I look forward to you reconsidering the matter urgently.
