Our Gymnasium.

There are some schools in my native town. But our school or Gymnasium number 1, as we call it, is the best one. Our school is open for boys and girls between 6 and 18. It is a real pride of our town. About a thousand pupils attend classes there. Our school’s aim is to develop student’s talents and abilities. We also aim at encouraging friendliness, honesty and respect for each other. The gymnasium is a modern three-storeyed building of a typical design. In front of the school there many beautiful flower-beds. Behind it we have a big sports ground with football and volleyball fields. Here we have classes in physical training when the weather is fine. And we also have different festivals there. When you enter the school you will see a large hall.
On the ground floor along the corridor we can see four workshops for labour training for boys and girls, Here the children acquire skills in handicraft and domestic arts. Everybody finds this instruction useful.
We can see a headmaster′s office, a doctor′s office, a dentist room and two gyms for classes in physical training on the ground floor. We also have cloak-rooms for junior and senior classes.
If we go upstairs we can see a big and splendid teacher′s room and a lot of studies on different subjects. On the first floor a beautiful and a big assembly hall where different meetings, concerts, festivals are held. On the walls of the corridors we can see different works made by our school young artists. We are proud of our library as well. Here we can find everything for our learning and joyful reading. Our librarian is always ready to meet our needs in finding a necessary book and information.
Our classes start at 8 o’clock. Students usually have 6 to 7 classes a day. Each lesson lasts 45 minutes. Between the lessons there breaks. After the 3rd, 4th and 5th lessons we have the longest breaks. Our school day is usually over at about 3 o’clock. There are different school rules. At the lessons you mustn’t be naughty. You must bring your daybook every day. You must have lunch at school. You must wear a uniform. You mustn’t be late for the lesson.
During the years of study we acquire deep knowledge in various subjects: such as Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Computing, English, The Russian language, Labour training, Music, Dancing and others. Our school offers modern facilities for learning. There are computers in every classroom. Our students can use computer programmes, they can watch videos in different languages. There are CD and tape recorders in many classrooms.
I′m very glad to study in this school, because it provides its pupils with all necessary facilities for their learning and rest. Our classes are always interesting. Our teachers organize quizzes and competitions for students. After classes our school offers school trips and excursions, parties and Olympiads. There also some sport clubs in our school. Here children can develop the talents in music, art and dancing.
There are some school traditions. They are the Day of Knowledge, Health Day, Self-governing Day, the Last Bell and Graduation Day. My favourite tradition is the Last Bell. It happens on the last school day. It is a special day for all the pupils, especially for those who graduate. Our teachers take part in the event, too. Even our parents come and take photographs. Everyone is excited. We are a bit sad on this day because we say goodbye to our classmates and teachers.
The gymnasium is proud of its pupils who have become winners in various music and dancing festivals and competitions in art and on different subjects not only in our town but even abroad. Giving us basic knowledge our school teaches us to be honest and hard-working. I like my school very much.
