70-90 words about your life as a teenager

I Am A Teenager
My name is Sarah. I’m a typical teenager. I study at the 9th form of a secondary school and my favourite subjects are Biology and Chemistry. In the future I want to become a professional doctor. At the moment I’m working hard to pass the end of year exams. After that, I can choose either to continue studying at high school, or to enter a medical college. I prefer the latter, because that way I will be able to learn the basics of medicine earlier. Apart from the choice of future career, teenagers have many other problems, for example, first love. Last year I met a guy that I liked. I thought he was my first love, but he actually chose to date my best friend Inna. It was a real shock for me and I felt frustrated. As time passed, I stopped worrying about it, but it still feels awkward seeing them together. Another problem is the attitude of my parents towards my personal life. They want to know everything about me, my life, my friends, etc. From the one hand, I can understand their concern. After all I’m their only child. From the other hand, it’s depressing. It seems that I can’t even turn on my computer without their permission. They think that there is lots of harmful information online, so I need to be careful while surfing the net. I’m also not allowed to stay outside with my friends when it gets dark. I need to be home sharp at 10 pm. Perhaps they know better than me about life. Another typical teenage problem that I couldn’t avoid is large amount of homework. This year I‘ve studied almost without weekends to get good marks in main subjects. So, I think being a teenager is not easy, but it is an obligatory life stage for everyone.

Ok, I am obviously already not a teenager but since I live in Russia now and spent most of my teenage years in the US I can kind of make a bit of comparative answer on some differences in everyday life of Russian and American teenagers.
In general that life is pretty similar. Russian teenagers same as their American, Western European or most other world countries counterparts study in schools or colleges, spend time with their friends, listen music, play videogames, watch YouTube and post their pictures on Instagram.

But there are actually some differences that Russian teenagers have comparing to their American age group.
1.Family ties.
In Russia they are much stronger. Teenagers spend a lot more time with their parents and parents more actively participate in their children's lives. Most Russian teenagers are living with their parents usually until they finish a college or university and may be some time afterwards. While in the US a lot of people rent their first apartment as early as being 18yo, in Russia that age is probably closer to being 25yo. Russian parents usually (not always) totally cover their children education and provide them with an allowance until that age too. On the other hand Russians are much less likely to send their parents to nursing homes later and prefer to take care of their elders personally.
2. Friends.
Due to specific traits of the Russian educational system since kids are attending the same school with the same classmates for all their time there (from 7 to 17yo) most people form a really strong bond with their school friends which lasts often their whole life. Such friends become someone similar to family members and you can count on them in many occasions. On the other hand there is much less diversity in Russia and most probably the total majority of your friends will be ethnic Russians.
3. Dating and marriage.
I would say dating culture of Russian and American teenagers is mostly similar. It is considered perfectly normal to start dating someone or even live together in 17-18 years. On the other hand marriages in Russia are definetly happening in much earlier age especially in some small towns and province in general. Girls often get married in the same 17-18 and guys in 19-20. That is slowly changing towards later periods of life but still is a pretty common thing.
4. University and college education.
Such education is much more affordable (or often even free) in Russia than in the US so the total majority of Russian teenagers go to colleges or universities and many start working full-time usually later because of that as well.
5. Travelling.
Russian teenagers travel less than teenagers in the US (and much less than teens in Western Europe) and often spend their summer vacations just hanging out with their friends in a city or partying at their parents dachas. This is mostly connected with that their parents often cant afford some resort vacation for the whole family every year, teenagers themselves dont have separate personal incomes as well as with some long distances to cross for that vacation and the necessity to obtain visas to visit some popular tourist destinations.
