The British Museum.
The British Museum is the largest and richest in the world. It was built in the middle of the 19th century. The Museum is situated in London, on Great Russel street.
The first owner of the Museum was Sir Hans Sloan, a rich businessman and collector. He lived in Ireland and arrived to London nearly 350 years ago with 800 species of plants collected in West India. All his long life Sir Hans Sloan remained a collector. In his will he offered his vast collection to the people of Britain. Later on the Government bought his collection. Two important libraries were added to the collection of books.
The present building of the Museum was built in 1852.
Every year the British Museum is visited by 2 million people.
