The Captivating World of... books

The 21st century. A lot of inventions were made TV, telephone, robots, spaceships, computers... But I consider that the greatest invention of the world is... a book. Love for book begins in the childhood. The books are different as people are. Everyone chooses a book on history or science, detective stories or love stories. When I have a new book in my hand I feel that my life is filling of something unusual and wonderful. In my early childhood I read «The Adventures of Tom Sawyer».

Now I understand that Mark Twain used a humor to develop many serious themes in his novel and helped society to see its problems more clearly. The next book shocked me was «Peter the Great» by Alexei Tolstoy. This historical novel I read with great interest and pleasure. I prefer to read detective stories of Agatha Christie. She writes interesting captivating stories. In rainy days I love to read poems of Valentina Suslova. She is an ordinary woman, a teacher by education who lives in my town and writes wonderful poems. We met and spoke about life and war, about friendship and love.

I often spend wonderful hours in the library or in a cosy corner at my room devouring one book after another. Among them such books as «Treasure Island» by R.Stivenson, «The Invisible Man» by M.G.Weils, «Jane Eyre» by Charlotte Bronte and stories by Rudyard Kipling. Every book is a kind of turning point in my life. I can find the answers to many my questions in books. Some young people don't like reading. Some people look at this wonderful creation without interest. I can say that it is a pitty. They don't have such a wonderful friend as a book. We always need a clever trustful adviser.

Do you agree with me? A book teaches us even when we don't wait and maybe don't want. The book's power is very great. I read all books, different kinds of books. But last time I began to notice that my choice is getting more and more serious. I like to read and write down wise words. They help to be true in different situations. They bring up me form my character. One of these quotations is «The books that help you the most are those which make you think the most» by Parker. What is the use of books? In our modern time when people master technology a book does not lose its value. The book makes us to be humans, helps us to enrich our souls and helps us to understand other people and ourselves. I hope the book will be in the life of people especially in the life of teenagers.
