The city is situated on the shores of Odessa Bay of the Black Sea. Most of the city, including the historical center, located on the plains overlooking the sea about 50 m. The area of 163 km ², population density is 6,139 people per km ². Sources of drinking water in the city at present - byuvetnye complexes, the main water supply in Odessa and the surrounding neighborhoods is from the Dniester River.
In Odessa, there are four administrative districts, which are managed by district administrations: Kiev, Malinowski, Seaside, Suvorov.
There are satellite towns, major ports - Illichevsk and South.
In Odessa has its own flag, anthem, which reflect the status of the city.
A modern coat of arms of Odessa is a silver river anchor with four legs in the field, red shield. Shield on the arms is a golden cartouche and crowned with a golden crown of the city, under which depicts a circuit-pointed star. Approved June 29, 1999.
Flag of the city is a square cloth with a simplified emblem in the center, divided vertically into three sections - red, white and yellow. Approved June 29, 1999.
Anthem of the city is the "Song of Odessa" from the operetta I.O. Dunajevs'kogo "White Acacia".
