2. The statue is inspired by a fairy tale by the famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. It was ordered by Carl Jacobsen, of the famous Carlsberg Brewery, after he attended a performance of The Little Mermaid by the Royal Danish Ballet Company. The statue was made by Edvard Eriksen and was put on at Langelinie on 23rd August, 1913.
