Canada has a history of bright ideas and successful inventions. The world of sports would be a different place without the country’s contributions. Not only was hockey invented in Canada, but so was the hockey’s goalie mask. In 1959 Fiberglass Canada and Montreal Canadians goalie Jacques Plante developed the first mask after Plante sustained the countless injuries to his face. Aside from giving hockey to the world, basketball and five-pin bowling were invented here, as were roller-skates, ski-binding and lacrosse. The snowmobile was invented out of necessity about 50 year ago by J. Armand Bombardier.
