Просто на всякий случай - в Past Perfect ставится то действие, которое происходит раньше.
Например, человек НЕ может отнести в библиотеку книгу раньше, чем он закончит ее читать.
То есть сначала закончил читать (РР) , потом отнес (PS)
ну, и так далее.. .
С покупкой машины еще можно посомневаться, что было раньше, сначала сдал на права, потом сразу купил или наоборот: сначала купил, потом сразу сдал, но вообще-то первый вариант выглядит естественнее.
