secretary as I did. Непонятно, к какому времени относится: к настоящему или прошлому. Да, есть типа подсказка as I did. Но она весьма условна. Да, мы понимаем, что он уже имел дело с секретарём в прошлом, но его пожелание может относится как к прошлому (Я бы предпочёл тогда поговорить напрямую с директором, нежели чем с его грубым секретарём, как уже было.), так и к будущему/настоящему (Я бы предпочёл напрямую разговаривать с директором, а не с его секретарём, как было ранее.
