My Chemical Romance (often shortened to MCR or My Chem) is an American Music Award-nominated American death metal band that formed in 2001. The current members of the band are Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero, Ray Toro and Bob Bryar.

The lead singer, Gerard Way was so touched by his firsthand witnessing of the planes crashing into the World Trade Center towers, that he wrote a song about it called Skylines and Turnstiles. It wasn’t long after he wrote that song that My Chemical Romance became a reality. Slowly the band picked up members, from Matt Pelissier to Ray Toro and Mikey Way My Chemical Romance slowly became a reality.

Then drummer Matt Pelissier hosted recording sessions right in his home. In the attic of Matt Pelissier, creations like Our Lady of Sorrows and even Cubicles were borne from idea into reality. They garnered thousands of fans by networking through MySpace, eventually landing their dream of signing a real record deal in 2002 Eyeball Records signed My Chemical Romance in 2002. At that point, the band had caught up with their new guitarist Frank Lero; he was originally of the band Pency Prep but the band had become dismantled, giving Lero the freedom to bring a little something extra to My Chemical Romance Merchandise.

The band went on to sign with Reprise Records the following year in 2003 and even released their second album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. Although they only released three singles from it, My Chemical Romance’s sophomore album went platinum within that year. Matt Pelisier was no longer the drummer for the band due to some argument with one of the other band members and Bob Bryar had stepped in to take over. They have opened for Green Day, bee on the Vans Warped Tour and even had tours of their very own.

A sign of true success in the music industry, My Chemical Romance released their very own DVD or CD box set, called Life on the Murder Scene. There is a DVD with all the ins and outs of the band and another DVD with music videos and band footage, as well as a CD included in that set.

The band followed this success with 2006’s The Black Parade, featuring their hit singles, “Welcome to the Black Parade”, “Famous Last Words”, “I Don’t Love You”, “Teenagers” and upcoming single “Mama”. While the band identifies their sound as simply “rock”, the subgenre of the band’s recordings has been a subject of debate among fans and the media. After a long hiatus, Mikey Way returned to the band in time to support Bon Jovi. The band also recently filmed a live DVD in Mexico City, which is due for release in early 2008.
