Among the wide variety of flowers on planet Earth, there are two that I favor the most: lilac and lily of the valley.

In spring, our dad would usually bring from nearby market a huge bunch of lilac or white lilacs, filling the entire house with wonderful aroma. It is thought that if you find a five-petal lilac flower, you should eat it and and the first person you see will fall in love with you. I remember how my sister and I would brush through those bouquets ;). In the States where they lilacs are not sold (or, at least, my dad wasn't buying them/didn't know where... and I still don't know myself either), the tradition of having lilacs in spring at our house turned into a status of a 'legend'. My joy was endless when I found out there was a real lilac tree growing behind the library on my college campus. When it bloomed, I purposefully took longer detours just to stop for a moment and enjoy the so much dear scent. Scent of home in spring. My gf and I didn't have guts to break the branches for bouquets, but we'd go and search for the five-petals at night, bring them home, swallow them and run to our boyfriends. Especially it was easy for me, because he lived in the same house (the only guy among other girls), so there was no chance of me running into somebody else.

Lily of the valley... Now that's a subject that deserves a post just for itself (but I'll write it here).
Lily of the valley is firmly associated with my birthday and beginning of the summer: the best time of the year. You could find them on a farm and nearby woods a couple of days before my bday already. But the majority of them, a whole lot of little bundles pennies each, were brought from the same nearby market, put in all possible containers and set all over our house with an exception maybe of a toilet. So the whole house would be filled with a subtle scent of spring. Lily of the valley has always been and will always be my most favorite flower. A bunch of simple Lilies of the valley would induce much more joy and excitement than any luxurious gift.

In the States, lily of the valley is a rare flower: it's nearly impossible to find them, and they cost a fortune. But I bought a Lily of the Valley bath soak by Woods of Windsor not long ago, and so I'm just literally getting high on it
