Как правильно поставить глагол в нужное время, английский язык.

Всё зависит от того, в каком времени рассказ дан... (ну, и учить, конечно, нужно: -)
Даю в 2-х вариантах: настоящее и прошедшее.

One summer morning Meeks (comes\came) from the West to New York to find his sister. She (is\was) Mrs. Mary Snyder, a widow, aged 52, who (has been living\had been living) for a year in a tenement house in a crowded district.
At her address somebody (tells\told) him that Mary (has moved\had moved) away longer than a month before. No one (can tell\could tell) him her new address.
On coming out of the house Mr. Meeks (addresses\addressed) a policeman who (is standing\was standing) on the corner, and (explains\explained) his difficulty to him. “I (have recently made) a lot of money and I’d like to help Mary as soon as possible”, he (adds\added). The policeman (pulls\pulled) his moustache and (tells\told) Meeks about Juggins. He (says\said) that Juggins (is\was) the leader of a new school of detectives. “Juggins (solves) some very difficult cases. I (will take) you to him”, the policeman said.
“If I (find) you sister, you (will pay) me two hundred dollars. I (will try) to solve your case. The disappearance of people in the city is the most interesting problem I (have ever worked at)”, (says\said) the famous detective, (rising) and (putting on) his hat.
In fifteen minutes Juggins (returns\returned) holding a little piece of paper with Mary’s new address. After Meeks (pays\paid) his bill, he (asks\asked) the detective to explain what he (will do\would do).
