Minimal amounts of propofol are secreted into human milk with no untoward effects on the breastfed infant. Observe for sedation. Caution is advised in infants that have a history of apnea. One time usage is probably safe in breastfeeding. Propofol is rapidly cleared from the circulation. A brief interruption in breastfeeding of a few hours, once you are awake and alert, should reduce risk to your infant. They often give other medications during surgery for pain relief and to decrease secretions so talk with your physician about all medications that will be given.
