When to use comma before a participial attribute?
When to use comma before a participial attribute?
Examples:
"They do not tolerate wolves wandering in the darkness."
Is the comma needed before "wandering"?
As I have always thought, if there is no comma, the participle describes the noun before it. But if there is, it becomes not the attribute, but the additional circumstance, and, if paraphrased, it could be said "When they wonder in the darkness, they do not tolerate wolves."
So, what's right and what's wrong?
If possible, I would like to see the examples of commas used before the present participial attribute (if any).
And the sources where I could see these rules would be great as well.
Thanks!
