The story by Geofrey Chaucer

Three young men were sitting in an inn, drinking wine and making merry.
Suddenly they saw, through the window. some people carrying a coffin.
'Who has died? ' they asked and heard the name of their friend, also a young man. They wanted to know the name of the murder. They heard: 'The Death. There is a village not far from here. Death lives in that village.'
The three young men decided to find Death and kill him. On their way they suddenly found a bag full of gold. They at once forgot about Death and decided to take the gold and divide it into three parts. They have sent the youngest of them to go to the village to buy some bread and wine, and the two remained sitting and keeping the gold.
After the youngest had gone, the two decided not to give him his part, but kill him and divide the gold into two. But this third also wanted to get all the gold and decided to poison his friends. So he bought wine and some poison, and added the poison to the wine.
As he came back, he was met by his "friends" and killed. But his "friends" trunk the poisined wine and died as well.
Such "good friends" !
