The Republic of Belarus
The Republic of Belarus lies in the western part of the East Europe. Belarus shaves bordest with five countries: with Russia, with the Ukraine, with Poland, with Lithuania and with Latvia. Belarus occupies a very profitable geographical position on the long populated and good used lands. The largest cities in Belarus – are Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev – in which the administrative centries are located. The capital of Belarus is Minsk.
The Belarusian language is official language of the Republic of Belarus; however, the Russian language is popular too.
Belarus produces tractors, combine harvesters, automobiles, computer, automatic lines, oil products, radio, and watches. Belarus has natural gas, rock salt, tufa and other. Belarusian industrial products are exported to many countries.
There are more than 3 thousand big and small rivers. The biggest and the most important of them are the West Dvina, Dnieper, the Pripyat, the Neman, the Bug and the Soth. There are a lot of lakes in Belarus. The most famous and the biggest of them are lake Naroch and the Braslav lakes. Also Belarus is called the country of the forests.
«Why Belarus»? There are a few version of the origin of this name. Firstly, the white clothes of the ancient villagers, their fair hair and the whiteness of their skin. Secondly, when our ancient Slav lands were invaded by Tatars and Mongols, we alone were able to keep them at bay.
The history of Belarus is rich in great events and outstanding people. The Belarusian spiritual and political leaders and political leaders of ancient times are well-known all over the world: Euphrosinia Polotskay, Queen Rogneda, Kirill of Turov, Symon Budny and Frantsisk Skaryna.

Also Belarus has many interesting cultural holidays, for example Slavyansky Bazar in Vitebsk. The first musical festival Slavyansky Bazar was opened on the 15th of July 1992 in Vitebsk. From that time every year Vitebsk meets singers, composers, dancers, artists from many countries of the world. The political leaders from many countries send telegrams of greeting and wish success to the participants of this festival. The main concert ground is the summer amphitheatre of Vitebsk. There are a lot of people round this place. The inhabitants of many towns and villagers from Belarus come to this festival. In 28 countries people can watch it on TV. In short Slavyansky Bazar is a great festival for many people from many countries. It shows the friendship of Slav nations, their desire to live in peace and to meet each other.
