В том далеком 1971-м группа находилась в Монтре на записи своего альбома «Machine Head». За день до начала сессий в соседнем казино играли Фрэнк Заппа и его The Mothers Of Invention. Во время концерта один из зрителей выпустил сигнальную ракету в потолок, крыша здания загорелась и в скором времени от казино остались только головешки. Это событие и легло в основу «Smoke On The Water».
