Many people make their only contact with hospitals in the outpatient department—often the busiest and worst accommodated department of all. But however poor the facilities, they can be no excuse for denying patients the explanations to which they are entitled. To tell patients what is to be done for them and why is common courtesy; but there are other matters which are so familiar to the hospital staff that they may never be seen to call for explanation.
