Екатеринбург - большой, густонаселенный город, который также является историческим центром. Это не только административный центр Урала, но и культурный с населением около 1,3 млн человек. Его банки, промышленность, бизнес сотрудничают с многими странами мира. Немногие из уральских городов имеют столько театров, музеев и художественных галерей или предлагают столько возможностей для массовых развлечений.
В Екатеринбурге имеются высшие учебные заведения, подразделения РАН, много исследовательских цетров и образовательных учреждений.
В центре Екатеринбурга находятся деловые и правительственные здания, магазины, его тротуары заполнены людьми, делающими покупки. Но там также есть красивые сади и парки, где люди могут укрыться от толпы и от уличного движения.

The streets of the city are straight and broad. Lenin Avenue is the main street of the city. It runs from East to West. Lenin Avenue is one of the busiest streets: trams,buses and trolley-buses run in every direction and connect the center with the suburbs of the city. The traffic is very heavy during the rush hours.
Let's have a walk down Lenin Avenue, from one end to the other. One can see a good number of big shops on both sides of the Avenue. The "Hotel Iset" is a multistory gray building. The "Bolshoi Ural Hotel" is right in the center of the city just behind the beautiful building of the Opera House. The Musical Comedy Theater, which is undoubtedly one of the finest of the kind, and the cinemas "Octoder" and "Sovkino" are within a few minutes walk from here.
Go still farther and you'll see the majestic building of the famous Polytechnical institute in the distance. In the square in front of the main building of the Institute you'll see the monumentt to those of the teachers and students of the institute who were killed (perished) in the Great Patriotic War. The Urals Branch of the Academy of Sciences and some scientific research institutions are also in this district.
Now lets walk up Lenin Avenue as fur as the "Historical Center". On your left you can see the monument to the founders of the city William Genin and Vasily Tatishchev. The monument was solemnly unveiled in 1998 when we marked the 275th anniversary of the foundation of the city.
There are a lot of historic places in our town as well as places of contemporary interest.
