You: Hi, Mike! What if i go and take a course on foreign languages? I prefer English and French. I have some knowledge of English, but not enough to communicate fluently. And French - well, I just enjoy its sounds, so melodic and pleasant.
Your friend: Why learn languages? Today one has so many opportunities to translate something if you need. Like on-line translators, for exampe. I wouldn't like to learn them, it's a waste of time, i think. You can't learn them well enough to understand everything.
You: I'm afraid, i can't agree with you here. Firstly, In our global world it's a must to be able to speak at least one foreign language. Secondly,the results of on-line translations are far from perfect. Thirdly, it's not a waste of time. You train your brains while learning. Besides,you can't always pay someone to help you with translations.
Your friend: Let it be the opinion of yours. I agree partly with you. My main reason why i don't want to learn - is that i haven't got a gift for languages.

---I reckon that I definitely have to learn the language instead of relying on technology that may fail me at any moment in various ways. Imagine that internet connection is weak or missing whatsoever or the gadget gets broken. Besides, the translation isn't getting better with the advansment of technological progress. I might discover myself in the situation when I simply won't have time to use the gadget. I don't like the idea of employing services of interpeters as well because it's quite expensive and not very practical for starters, also some information might get lost in translation and I would hate that.
Finally it's cool to know a foreign language, isn't it? In fact, I plan to learn few of them.
