Do you agree or not? Give your reasoning, pls. (See inside)
..having two languages (being bi-lingual) does not make you a translator or interpreter any more than having two hands makes you a pianist...
Surely, not! A translator/interpreter is a profession. A person should spend some time and money to get his (her) diploma, and several more years to approve himself (herself) in this position.
And let's believe profi in any profession!!!;-)
If you can translate w/o any Promps, Translate...if you can help people to understand each other better, then you are a good FACILITOR;-)...but neither a translator or interpreter!!! No kidding!

perhaps I agree... The interpreter and, even more translators function require slightly more, than attainments of 2 language...
But, from the other hand, the comparison with pianist is unreasonable! If you have 2 hand, but no special ability, you cannot play at all, but if you are bi-lingual - you, of cource, can translate, better or worse, but anyhow more better, than automatic translators :-)
So, I NOT agree!

Even if one knows both the languages perfectly it doesn't mean that one can easily express the same ideas in both the languages. Besides to translate something one should not only know the notion itself but the ways of expressing it in diffent languages which can be absolutely different.
i would agree.
both instances requre some skills/experience. just the argument of having two hands or being bilingual doesn't make you a skilled professional but it does give you a good chance to become one.

I can agree. I think interpriting/translating is a gift given by God to some definite group of people. But of course there must be exeptions.
ну.. . смотря как языки знаешь. также и с руками.
You do need to have two hands to become a pianist :-) as well as you need to know two languages to become an interpreter. But it is not enough. Both proffesions need years of learning and practicing to make it perfect.
I agree, because beeing a translator or interpreter needs some more extra skills. You need to know some rules of translatihg and the peculiarities of languages, to transfer the meaning correctly.
think i cant agree koz i cant think of a man who cant translate from one language to another despite knowing both of them perfectly!!! A man who knows more than 1 language cant be that dumb after all! I think only translators will agree thinking that they are so unique
хорошо сказанно, остается только утвердительно кивнуть)
yes, having a good command of two languages one can easily become a translator provided absence of shizo
I agree. To be a translator/interpreter means that the person should perfectly know the rules of the languages and the situations when he/she uses this or that expression, etc
