thank you for your letter. I was so happy to hear that you got a prize in a Talent Show! Remember, I've always been saying that you've got a talent. What did you do? I guess you sang one of your own songs, didn't you? Do tell me more, I'm eager to know the details.
As for your sister's decision, I think she is absolutely right. I'm also thinking of becoming a vegetarian myself. As for my experience, well, I cannot say I am very much aware of the principles of the vegetarian diet, but, yes, there were periods of my life when I didn't eat any meat for a week or two. It wasn't a problem. There are plenty of products which can compensate meat: soy, beans, nuts etc. The only thing I cannot live without is milk. I simply love milk and dairy products. What does your sister think of milk? Is she going to get rid of it, too?
You asked me about Russian traditional food. I wouldn't say that it's particularly healthy. Too many bread products, you know: all those pies, buns and pancakes (famous bliny) and so on. And it certainly lacks fruit and vegetables. It's because of the harsh climate, I believe. By the way, in the past Russian people didn't often eat meat. Meat was a festive kind of food. And they still survived... somehow.
Well, to cut it short, I agree with those people who say that we eat to live, not live to eat. Tell your little sis' I support her decision.
Anyway, I have to finish now as I have to write an essay on Russian avant-garde art.
