Adventures in the Jungle

Jack Thompson is an explorer. He HAS BEEN to nearly every country in the world, but the most exciting time he HAS EVER HAD was when he WAS TRAVELLED to the Congo jungle last year. He WENT there to find the information about a famous explorer, Mr. Smith, who HAD DISAPPEARED / DISAPPEARED (с before допустимы оба варианта) about 50 years before.

Here is what happened to Jack in the Jungle. While he WAS FOLLOWING a small river he GOT separated from his guides. He DECIDED to continue his way alone, hoping he WOULD FIND them, but instead he MET a group of native people. He STAYED with them for several days and FOUND out that a very old woman HAD MET Mr. Smith during his days in the jungle. She KNEW how he HAD DIED. Jack BECAME very friendly with the natives. He HAS TOLD a lot of stories about the life of native people, which helped him in his studies. Now Jack PLANS / IS PLANNING to go back and see the people of the village again. He is sure they WILL WELCOME him back.

Paul's Dream

When Paul Johnson was a boy he WANTED to be an astronaut. One day in 1969, he WAS WATCHING TV when he SAW Neil Armstrong walk on the moon. Since then he HAS ALWAYS DREAMT / HAS ALWAYS BEEN DREAMING of doing the same. Every night when there is a full moon, he LOOKS at it for hours and IMAGINES himself walking around on it.

At the moment, however, Paul WORKS as a night-watchman at a meat factory. Margaret Williams is a fashion designer. She HAS BEEN MAKING clothes ever since she WAS a young girl. She STARTED her first job in a clothes factory when she was sixteen. She WAS SEWING buttons onto a shirt one day when she HAD a brilliant idea for a design. After Margaret HAD SPOKEN / SPOKE (с after допустимы оба варианта) to her bank manager, she WAS GIVEN some money to start her own business. Two months later she OPENED her own little workshop. Things designed by Margaret GOT their popularity after a well-known singer HAD BOUGHT / BOUGHT (с after допустимы оба варианта) some new outfit for her show.

Now Margaret’s business is quite prosperous. The shop where her designer clothes IS SOLD is well known in our city. She HAS ALREADY SOLD a lot of stylish things to a number of famous persons. People from different parts of the country COME to our city TO VISIT Margaret’s shop. Margaret has some plans for the future. Next year she IS GOING TO OPEN / IS OPENING a new shop.
