In the spring of 2002 a dynamic young performer, The Oskar was touring all over Eastern Europe finding new fans everywhere he went. His popularity among Russian youths had surged with the release of his video and single “Between Me and You. ” It was number one on the MTV Russia Top 20 for seven weeks running. In very short order Oskar had emerged out of obscurity into stardom in the rock scene of Russia. His first full album, “Running On The Edge” (August of 2001), which sold 500, 000 copies, won a number of music industry awards. In 2002, Oskar was nominated for the “Ovation” award, the Russian Grammy.

"The success of his first album was so phenomenal that the singer's second record consisted mainly of remixes--the artist gained both recognition from professionals and adulation from a public that enthusiastically received new versions of songs that were already well known. Coming from Chechnya gives Oskar a unique point of view. In 2003 Oskar released a wildly controversial single and video in Russia, “Overcome Jihad”. In it we see the singer running from an advancing army of Russian soldiers and tanks bearing down on Chechnya. The lyrics, calling to stop the killing, stop the war, ignited a firestorm. The images of the video broadcast on MTV, replete with war-devastated Chechnya and Russian soldiers attacking the city, shocked his audience and it was soon banned by the Russian government.

Although acknowledged as no ordinary talent but an exceptionally gifted performer, Oskar had touched a nerve in the collective contemporary Russian psyche.

He defended his work, “In my song, I'm a deserter fleeing the war, ” but the message was lost on the alarmed Russian media who rallied against the singer. An uproar ensued and the video and single were pulled from MTV and radio stations. Oskar was forced to flee death threats from skinheads and retreated to London where he could continued his music career. “Its too dangerous here to be myself. ”

The interview to France Press: "When fame came to me I was like a kid in a candy store but I didn't want to mask my roots. I will always value who I am and where I came from. I am a mountain boy. I remember how the police stopped me in Moscow underground to check my passport just because my face doesn't look like a typical Russian. They arrested me and my friend because we didn't have permission to be in Moscow. Later we paid off the cop so he let us go. So I was pissed off with all this nationalism and racism to people from Caucasus. I felt like I wanted to say it to people in Russia. I made this video and I know that the reaction would be fierce, but I know people heard my message and agreed with me. That is everyone except the press who accused me of being anti-Russian.

But nothing could stop The Oskar. The next step was recording his first album in English. By that time he has already written English lyrics and new tunes. In 2004 Oskar moved to New York City. "I didn't start recording right away. I wanted to drown in the vibes of New York. It was a total rebirth. I started to dance funk and hip-hop a lot. And I was living in Harlem where I soaked up the urban energy. "

Already established in Europe and having won the hearts of that audience, Oskar emerges in the USA with a brand new sound for a young American audience who will be eager to listen to the first "breaking-taboos" hip rock performer in the world. With a r'n'b producer named Mike Z. he set about recording his first CD in the US. Launching his first American album he comes upon the US music scene with an entirely fresh sound combining hip hop, electronica and rock.

He has appeared in rock venues in New York, such as CBGB, Rare, Satalla and The China Club as well as in Chicago, San Francisco and Miami.
