Russian pro-government media says that it is one ofe main reasons why they forbad adoption of russian children for americans.
Other reason they say that today there is large growing queue of russians who want to adopt chilren and they cant do it because rich americans buy kids.
And the third reason is the act of Magnitsky.

No.

1) An adopted child becomes a U.S. citizen once the adoption is finalized, and are entitled to all rights and protections under the law as any other U.S. citizen.

2) Most of the Americans who adopt from foreign countries aren't rich. They do so because they often can't afford going through the expensive American adoption system.

3) The Magnitsky Act has pretty much EVERYTHING to do with Russia forbidding American adoptions. It's entirely political.

Any adoptive parent that beats or kills any child inside the jurisdiction of the US and its held territories is held criminally responsible regardless of where the child was adopted from...

Rich Americans dont buy children they pay the adoption fees required by russian law....
Russian doesnt seem to have a shortage of children eligable for adoption the orphanages are over crowded with starving children as it is...
American Citizens shouldnt be allowed to adpot children from other countries when we have so many of our own children available for adoption, children that are natural born citizens of out country and not some foreign riff raff

Absolute nonsense. Any parent who beats a child or kills a child will be charged with crimes.
The Russian adoption law changes have nothing to do with the adoption process, they are a way to strike back at the US on other issues.

Any parent.. adoptive or not.. is charged with a crime if they beat/ kill a child. I suggest the media is exaggerating. It IS NOT the reason behind what is going on.
If Russian families are able to adopt a child, then they should do so. I doubt there is any shortage of children.
I am truly sorry these disputes are happening. Most Russian people are good, loving persons, and the same is true for Americans. This is a sad thing to be happening, if it makes anyone distrust others.
by the way...there are lies in the American media too. It isn't only in Russia.
