The World Appreciation Day (W.A.D) is a world-wide campaign organized
by Leadership-Inside-Out. This campaign aims to encourage the
expression of gratitude and appreciation among people around the world.
On top of that, this campaign also aspires to generate a “movement” to
promote the spirit of “passing on” this expression of gratitude and
appreciation. To create global awareness and promote participation in
this meaningful cause for appreciation in life, the W.A.D campaign will
pledge to start with “1 million appreciations” in its first year.
W.A.D will make its debut across five countries on 22nd July 2012. Thereafter, it will be held in July annually.
The Origin
Inspired by the belief to continually make a difference in people’s
lives, the people behind Leadership-Inside-Out decided to create the
W.A.D . The main intention through the spread of expression of gratitude
and appreciation throughout the world, is to remind the people the
importance of appreciating themselves and Life, and being grateful to
the people around them.
Before the birth of W.A.D, the appreciation campaign was first
introduced in Singapore as a two-hour “Life Appreciation” campaign on
March 2012, whereby a group of 12 passionate individuals from
Leadership-Inside-Out were stationed at Orchard Road, Singapore’s famous
shopping belt to reach out to passers-by. Tourists or shoppers alike,
they were invited to pen down quotes or words of appreciations on pieces
of colored papers. Within a short span of two hours they managed to
collect 172 hand-written messages and drawings!
Following the success of the first round of campaigning, the team has
modified and improved the appreciation campaign to include the act of
“passing on” the gestures of gratitude & appreciation in the
upcoming W.A.D. Using the magical number “3”, the team aims to encourage
individuals to spread their feelings and thoughts of appreciation to
another three individuals whom would in turn spread these gestures of
appreciation to three other individuals, thereby creating a ‘chain’ of
appreciations in the hope of making it a truly international affair.
By engaging the “global citizens” in this latest campaign, everyone
can be empowered to touch the lives of other people, and there is an
opportunity to leave a lasting legacy behind for future generations.
And emphasizing on the timeliness to express appreciation,
co-organiser of Leadership-Inside-Out, Soon Loo said: “….Everyday we
have people around us who have been doing so much for us and show us
love in a way that is not spoken. Now it is time to show our
appreciation back to them, whether it is a “thank you” or a gesture like
buying a “meal” or a “card”. Take this time to give back to those
people whom matter most to us!”
