Fear has always been a companion for the humankind. People are always afraid of something, no matter what time they live in.
I suppose most people fear things to do with nature. They are afraid of heights, of darkness, of snakes and spiders. I know some people dread death or falling ill, and these are also natural phenomena.
When it comes to facing your fears, people fall into two types. Some people completely lose it. They become paralyzed with fear and stop fighting for their lives. Some people are the opposite. They manage to shut off their feelings and try to get out of the stressful situation.
While being afraid is more of a negative rather than a positive feeling, I believe we can't exist without it. People need limits so fear is an essential part of our lives. We should fear God, we should be afraid to disappoint our parents and loved ones. On the other hand, I don't suppose we need phobias. Fear of cockroaches doesn't do anyone any good.
Speaking if phobias, people have a lot of them, from fear of heights to something exotic like being afraid of Friday, 13th. A phobia is a mental disorder, and unfortunately more and more people have such disorders nowadays. This is because our life gets more stressful day by day.
The key to fighting any fear is analyzing it. Some people go into therapy, some can figure this out by themselves. You need to stop and think when your phobia began, what caused it, and why it's illogical.
All in all, we can say that fears have always been here and will probably stay with the humankind forever. It's up to us to face up to the things we are afraid of.
