Some of my college friends and I have a tradition of meeting once a year at somebody's place. You must remember two of my friends Julie and Jane. We used to share a flat in the hostel. And I'm sure, you remember our strange roommate — someone who LIVED in the flat with us at that time.
This year we HAVE DECIDED to have our traditional party in Julie's house. She LIVES in a place between London and Wimbledon. My car WAS OUT of order, so Jane OFFERED to take me there in her car.
I WAS GETTING dressed for the party when the telephone RANG. It WAS Jane. She DIDN'T FEEL well and COULDN'T GO. So I DECIDED GO by train. While we WERE TALKING, my cat Morris JUMPED on the table right on my cup of coffee. The coffee SPILT all down the new sweater I was going to wear at the party, so I HAD TO find something else to put on. It certainly TOOK me some time.
The station isn't far from my house, about 20 minutes'walk, to be more exact. I LOOKED OUT of the window. The sun WAS SHINING. "It isn't going to rain," I THOUGHT and LEFT my umbrella at home. That WAS a big mistake.
As I WAS WALKING to the station it STARTED raining. It WASN'T very hard rain, but the day WAS windy, and I GOT wet and cold very soon. I STARTED running to get warmer, and as a result GOT to the station too early for the seven o'clock train. While I WAS WAITING I GOT cold again, so when the train ARRIVED and I TOOK a seat I FELT so cold and tired that I FELL asleep and MISSED my station.
"Oh, I'VE MISSED it!" I THOUGHT at once when I WOKE UP and LOOKED OUT of the window. I GOT OFF very quickly to catch the first train back.
Of course, I HAD TO wait on the platform again. Luckily it WASN'T rain this time.
When I GOT to Julie's house at last, some of the guests SAID goodbye and LEFT.
Julie SUGGESTED that I should stay at her place for the night and I certainly AGREED. I PHONED my neighbour Mary who has my flat key and ASKED her to give Morris something to eat.
The next morning we WAS HAVING breakfast when the telephone RANG. It WAS Mary. "When WILL you COME back?" she ASKED. There WAS something strange in her voice. "I HAVEN'T DECIDED yet. Why? HAS anything HAPPEND to Morris?" "No, but something HAS HAPPEND to my goldfish. He HAS EATEN it!"
