Argentina - President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner cancelled an event related to a US$400 million book donation to the country's education system and a summit with Brazil. She also declared three days of National mourning and that night she flew to Caracas accompanied by Uruguayan President José Mujica.
Bolivia - President Evo Morales broke down in tears on television while paying tribute saying Chávez "is more alive than ever [...] will continue to be an inspiration for all peoples who fight for their liberation [...] will always be present in all the regions of the world and all social sectors [...] will always be with us, accompanying us." Morales decreed seven days of mourning after Chávez's death.
Brazil - President Dilma Rousseff led a minute of silence in Brasília, describing Chávez's death as “an irreparable loss” of a “great Latin American” and “a friend of the Brazilian people.” Rousseff cancelled a scheduled trip to Argentina to meet President Kirchner when news of Chávez's death broke.
Canada - Prime Minister Stephen Harper offered his "condolences to the people of Venezuela on the passing of Chávez." He further expressed that "Canada looks forward to working with other leaders in the region to build a hemisphere that is more prosperous, secure and democratic." He also hoped that "the people of Venezuela can now build themselves a better, brighter future based on the principles of freedom, democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights."
Chile - President Sebastián Piñera said: "We undoubtedly had our differences, but I was always able to appreciate the strength, the engagement with which Chavez fought for his ideas. "When his illness worsened and he had to return to Cuba, I called him and I remember he told me ...that if he had to face death, he wanted to do it in his country, in his beloved Venezuela." Piñera is due to attend Chavez's funeral. Minister Andrés Chadwick said on 6 March that the Chilean government declared three days of national mourning because of Chávez's death.
China - President Hu Jintao and Communist Party of China General Secretary Xi Jinping each sent condolence messages to Acting-President Nicolás Maduro. A Foreign Ministry spokesman said: "President Chávez was an outstanding leader of Venezuela and a good friend of the Chinese people." She also praised Chávez's contributions to advancing friendly and cooperative relations between China and Venezuela.
Colombia - President Juan Manuel Santos expressed that he "laments the death of President Chávez," also stating that "the best tribute that we can do for Hugo Chávez is to accomplish the dream that both of our governments shared, peace in Colombia." Santos described how Chávez's death had a special significance not only in Colombia but also on his personal half and that "not only did Venezuela lose a great leader but all of Latin America too." Santos also explained that from the beginning of his term both Chávez and himslef "put all differences aside and worked to rebuilt all bilateral relations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a press release deeply lamenting the death of Chávez. "[Chávez was a] fighter. He demonstrated it in his political career and even while fighting his regretful illness."
