Davy: Excuse me, the book mark has fallen out of your book.
Gordon: Thank you.
Davy: What are you reading? Can I have a look?
Gordon: Yes of course
Davy: Oh, I’ve read this novel lately.
Gordon: Did you enjoy it?
Davy: It’s a ripping modern novel. This novel isn’t easy reading.
Gordon: Exactly! It isn’t a dime novel. I read it deep into the night.
Davy: By the way, how could you get this novel? It is a great success. I hear that it was out of print at once.
Gordon: Absolutely! I couldn’t buy it anywhere. Paul gave it to me.
Davy: You are lucky. This book is worth reading. As for me I’m ready to read it over and over again.
Gordon: Yes! The plot is very interesting and the characters are well drawn.
Davy: Quite!

Doris: Good morning - Doris greeted the librarian.
Librarian: Morning! Can I help you? - The librarian greeted Doris in return and asked if she/he could help her. (будем считать библиотекаря женщиной, хотя в моей библиотеке - библиотекарь-мужчина)
Doris: I’d like to take some books from your library - Doris said that she would like to take some books from their (her) library.
Librarian: Very well. Have you got a library card? The librarian was very pleased. She asked Doris if she had got a library card.
Doris: No, not yet. - Doris answered that she hadn't got it yet.
Librarian: Please fill in this form. Have you got a passport? - The librarian told Doris (asked Doris) to fill in that form and wondered if Doris had got a passport.
Doris: No, I haven’t. I’m only fifteen. - Doris answered that she hadn't got it, because she was only fifteen.
Librarian: Please write your name, surname, address and the telephone number. - The librarian asked Doris to write her name, surname, address, and the telephone number.
Doris: How long can I keep the books? - Doris wanted to know how long she could keep the books.
Librarian: Two weeks. But if you want some books for a longer period, you can prolong them. If you haven’t enough time to come to the library you can do it by telephone. - The librarian explained to Doris that she could keep the books for two weeks. She added that if Doris wanted some books for a longer period, she could prolong them. The librarian went on that if Doris hadn't enough time to come to the library, she could do it by telephone.
Doris: Well, I am interested in the history of England. I wonder if you could recommend me anything. - Doris told the librarian that she was interested in the history of England. She wondered if the librarian could recommend her anything (something.)
Librarian: Yes, of course. Just a moment. I’ll look through the catalogues and find the books you need. - The librarian said that she could. She asked Doris to wait for a moment. She explained that she'd look through the catalogues and find the books Doris needed.

В английском я не силен, но знаю, что косвенная речь - это конструкции типа "Davy сказал, что ...", "Gordon ответил, что ..."
И так далее.
