Англ язык. Перевод в косвенную речь

Mr. Smith asked whether he could use their telephone for (to make) a long distance call and said that he hadn't been able to find a pay phone in the building.
Mr. Wilson said that he could for sure.
Mr. S. said that his wife was going to meet him in New York the next day and he wanted to tell her what time the train got in.
Mr. W. gave him the telephone and said that for New York Mr. S could dial the number directly. Mr. W told him to dial 2 and then the number.
Mr. S. said that there was no answer and that he would call later.
Mr. W. said that Mr. S could use the telephone any time he wanted.
Mr. S.: asked whether Direct distance dialing was wonderful.
An Operator said that it was the trunk-service and asked for the number.
Mr. Jones dictated the number: London Victoria 2884. He asked the operator to hurry it up for him as he had a train to catch a few minutes later.
The operator said that unless his number was engaged, he could put him through almost at once. The operator said he was sorry, but the number (Mr. Jones had given) was engaged.
A few seconds later the operator said that he had got the number. He asked to hold the line.
Mr. Jones asked his wife Mary whether it was her.
Mrs. Jones asked him if it was him. She also asked how he was and said that she was so pleased to hear his voice again! She asked when he was going to come back/

Mr. J. said that he couldn't hear her. He asked the operator to try again.
The Operator said he was sure thatwas better then.
Mr. J. asked his wife whether she was there and whether that person was his wife Mary, He asked whether she could hear him?
Mrs. J. said she could hear him.
Mr. J. said that he would be arriving at Waterloo Station at 5.40 that after-
noon and asked if she would come and meet him.
Mrs. J. confirmed that.
Mr. J. said that there was something else he wanted to tell her. He asked her to Get hold of Smith at the office and to ask him to ring Mr. Jones up the next day in the morning.
The operator said that his time was up and If he (Mr. Jones) wanted to speak on, he had to drop another sixpence.
Mr. J. said good bye to his wife. (насколько я понимаю, вся эта фраза All right, dear, so long и означает, что он попрощался с женой, а All right тут просто словесный паразит, смысла не несет и его мы опускаем) .
Фразу New York you can dial the number direct. я понимаю не очень хорошо, здесь чего-то не хватает, чтобы Нью-Йорк привязать, предлога какого-нибудь.
Вообще все это сюсюканье: "Это ты? - А это ты? - Это точно ты... " переводить в косвенную речь очень сложно.
И мой совет - если тему не объяснили, надо найти в интернете и самому посмотреть. Она несложная, на самом деле, там только меняются времена и местоимения, соответственно, плюс некоторые обстоятельства.
Кстати,...а в каком времени-то надо было переводить? Просто обычно просят перевести так, чтобы главное предложение было в прошедшем времени (что наиболее сложно в английском) , так что у меня именно этот случай.
