Какие вы знаете английские слова с нетипичным произношением? (пишется так, а читается совсем неожиданно по-другому)

Из английских слов: throughout [θruːˈaʊt], burgh [ˈbʌrə]. Названия английских городов Worcester [ˈwʊstə], Leicester [ˈlɛstə] и Warwick [ˈwɒrɪk].

Заимствования из (старо) французского: isle [aɪl], reservoir [ˈrɛzəˌvwɑː], heir [ɛə], eau de Cologne [əʊ də kəˈləʊn].

Греческого происхождения: psychology [saɪˈkɒlədʒɪ].

Но наиболее примечательны в этом отношении топонимы кельтского происхождения, особенно ирландские. Например, Dun Laoghaire [duːn ˈlɪərɪ ] и ирландское название Дублина -- Baile Átha Cliath -- приблизительная транскрипция: [blaˈkliə]. Правда, это уже не совсем по теме, но зато интересно.

Например версия Линукса Ubuntu по правилам должна читаться "Юбанта" (как бы у нас это переиначили, страшно подумать) , но читается "Убунту".

Пишется "Ливерпуль" - читается "Манчестер")))

все слова латинского (...TION, ..SION - произносятся шн) и французского происхождения (....GH, ..QUE которые зачем то пишутся, но не читаются )

английский язык в основном только из таких слов и состоит

ну дык жеж "Ubuntu" не англицкое слово

По этому поводу есть даже шутка, что "рыба" на самом деле должна писаться не как "fish", а как "ghoti".
