Olympic Games have an incredibly long history.
Historical records indicate that they began in 7761
BC in Olympia, Greece, in a sanctuary for the Greek
deities near the towns of Elis & Pisa.

Ancient Olympic Games was one of the greatest Hellenic
national celebrations. They were conducted in honor of Zeus2 and Greeks gave them a mythological origin.
OG3 were series of athletic
competitions among representatives of city-states of Ancient Greece. The games
were held every 4 years which became a unit of time in historical chronologies.

In the year of Olympic Games criers were serving the
cities of Hellas good news: «All – in Olympia! Declared the sacred world, roads
are safe! Let the strongest win! ». In Olympia located in southern part of Greece
gathered hundreds of participants and thousands of visitors from all over
Greece (including the colonies).

Participants in these games usually became wealthy men
(poor men couldn’t train as many months). In the competitions all free Greeks
can be participants. However women were forbidden to be present even in the role
of spectators. OG were dedicated to Zeus, it was only male holiday.


Once upon a time a brave woman (Greek) dressed in
men's clothes secretly penetrated to Olympia to take a look at the presentation
of her son. When her son won she in delight ran to him and everyone realized
that she was a woman… She must have been put to death but out of respect for
her son-winner she was pardoned.

After this incident, all participants and his coach
had to be naked in the game.

Olympic program:


Olympic Games were held in summer and lasted five
days.


On the first day athletes sacrificed to the gods and
took an oath to fight fair. Judges sworn make fair decisions.


The following three days were competitions.


In the fifth day summed up and winners was awarded.

Olympic competitions:


Running: running the distance, double jogging, long
running, running in full armor or running hoplites;


Martial Arts: pugilism, pankration, fight;


Pentathlon;


Horse racing (the only kind of competition in which
women could participate);


Competitions trumpeters and heralds.
