Will English go out of fashion some day?

Well, everything can happen over time. No empire lasts forever. But if you look closely there are other reasons for English to be the language of choice than military and economic might of the countries of the former British Empire. There's a lot of things which attract people in the Anglo- Saxon culture:

- respect to the human rights
- respect to property
- rule of law and safety for all
- freedom
- opportunity to do what you want in your life and become whoever you want
- positive outlook at life - especially significant in the US. When you do business with an American you will never have bad aftertaste - the feeling that you have been deceived or ripped off
- the technology invented primarily in the US - from electric goods and airplanes to the Internet and iPhones
- the many thousands of movies that captivate the planet - watched even in the countries with utter hate to the US and all the West such as Pakistan and Iran
- and the last but not least is the music: the Beatles ; Led Zeppelin; Deep Purple etc. etc. etc. - the music world will never be the same since they have emerged

If some other culture will appear to offer something more attractive then people will turn to it - and the language as you know is not just collection of words. It is also culture and all of the above.

It wholy depends on the uncontended.

Не все сразу. Мы только-только начали расползаться и распространять свое влияние. Но уже на многих базарах торговцы научились - "Бери дура! Завтра не будет! ". :-)

При телефонных разборках с некоторыми фирмами, заслышав МОЙ инглиш - начинают общаться иронично - насмешливо, принимая за поляка. А стоит выразить свое впечатление-отношение к ним на безупречном "русском-непечатном", МГНОВЕННО меняются на корректнейше-вежливейших.

Инглиш нужен, но за РУССКИМ всепланетное будущее! Другого, такого сочного, гибкого и выразительного языка, на свете НЕТ.

I don’t think so. English will remain as international language for long time for many reasons. Main reason is that English easer than many other languages especially Russian. Learning English is based on memorising, when in Russian you have to know a lot of rules which really can’t explain all aspects of Russian and then you have to memorise even more.

There is more. All softwares are in English. All program languages are in English. Can you imaging modern world without electronics? Or electronics without soft?

Why are you saying you MUST understand Americans in Russia? There is no must! Who is forcing you?

Word needs to have international language. How tourist can find his way, lets say, in Germany, Russia. China, Thailand if he does not understand international language? So happened that international language currently and for long time is and will be English. It’s why american doesn’t understand Russian and Russians need to understand English if they want to travel, to able create softs, to do electronics etc.

And all that is only small fraction of all aspects or reasons why English is and will be international language! Russian does not have even little chance to become such language!
