And about 70% of them have more than one TV set at home. The biggest TV channels are NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox и CW. Three of them were radio stations at first .

The most popular types of TV programs are sitcoms and shows. In 2008 the National Association of TV rated the most popular programs. Some of them have been aired in the middle of the XX century, and others, such as Friends, Simpsons, Saturday Night are still on.

Many American shows are very popular all over the planet. Therefore, some foreign TV companies buy rights on TV shows and make their national versions. For example, American Idol, The next American top-model, … have over 20 “clones” all over the world.

At present time we can see a new trend. A lot of young people give up watching TV and shift their preference to the Internet. Therefore, a lot of TV companies have web-sites where their programs can be watch on-line. It was a great idea, and now over 14% of Internet users watch TV on-line. On-line cinemas are also popular.

In Russia on-line TV is less popular. The reason for that is the fact that the Internet is not as widespread as in the USA.
In Russia the biggest part of prime-time (over 40%) is taken by movies and soap operas. Comparing to them, America TV shows get less time.
