A house is not a home.
A house, as well as food, water and clothes is essential for man`s life. But a human being differs from animals; he wants to have not just a shelter but a place to satisfy all his necessities: to sleep, to eat, to hide himself from bad weather, to raise children, to worship God, etc. So he wants not just a house but a home. There are a lot of proverbs supporting the importance of home to a person: East or west, home is best; There is no place like home; My house is my fortress; and others. Such sayings exist in any language and in any culture.
A home may be a house, but a house isn't always a home.
A house is a structure, but a home is the people who live in the house and make it a safe and pleasant place to be.
You can live in a beautiful house, but if you have no one to love and share it with, then it's just a plain house no matter how fancy it is.
A home can be anywhere you live - your home may be a mobile home, or a motor caravan, or an igloo.
But a house is a physical structure with walls, windows, a roof and a door. A house is a building which accommodates you. It is just a building and you do not necessarily care about it.
A home is a place you love, where you feel you belong and where you feel happy to be there.
It takes a lot of living in a house to turn it into a home.

P.Adler once said " A house is not a Home". Later he wrote a whole book proving that a house is not always and (not necessarily) a home.
The English say: "My house is my castle". It is connected with their sennse of privace and security as that of an 'island nation'.
Home-making (as well as gardening) is one of the most popular hobbies typical of the English people.

It is a great art, application of best human skills when a person can transform a mere house into a real home, - cosy, warm, specious, comfortable, safe, secure and loving!
When it looks personal, individual, private - it ia alredy a home!
When it is clean, beautiful, light, well designed - it is twice a home/
When there are people (loving and respecting each other) living in - it may be called a great home, a perfect home, with its own aurs and original family style!

Robinson Crusoe, when happened to turn out in a ship wresk, had to make a shelter on a small deserted island, so was eager to make it a shelter first of all. But it WAS his home as well!
The English say "Be at home", "Feel at home" when they greet their guests in theis 'castle'. It means "share my home, feel safe, feel happy, feel relaxed".

So, to my mind, home is where you feel safe, feel happy, feel relaxed.
True is the proverb: home is where you make it!
Any house is only a building!
