Да нет же!! ! Final paper - это как русская курсовая работа или даже диплом. Finals - выпускные экзамены, final paper - курсовая. работа. автор ссылается на свою первую курсовую.

В подобных случаях paper может быть и статьёй, и
(научной) работой, сообщением, даже текстом доклада.
