An English Romantic poet, Lord George Byron was born on 22 January 1788 in London. He came from a noble, but impoverished family. At the age of ten, following the death of his grandfather, he inherited the Lordship. He pursued his studies at Cambridge. He also lived for a term in Pisa and Genoa. In 1823 he arrived in Greece, where he took part in the struggle of the Greek people for liberation from the Turkish yoke. He financed equipment of a ship and hired a crew of 500 and was personally in charge of his regiment. George Byron died of a fever on 19 April 1824 in Missolonghi, Greece.
