Task 1: Smoking tobacco like other dangerous drugs should be made illegal. Agree or disagree? at least 250 words

I cannot completely agree with the statement that smoking must be banned. Certainly, smoking can cause irreparable damage to a person's health and can be considered antisocial behavior. However, this is not the reason why it should be deemed as dangerous as drugs. Let's consider these two unhealthy habits.

First, drugs can be the one of the easiest way of transmitting such fatal diseases as AIDS and hepatitis. Second, drugs can cause negative impacts on its users. Certain drugs can cause a person to not understand his or her actions.

Third, many people who take drugs often suffer from reproductive health problems. Unfortunately, if a baby is conceived, he or she is often born with birth defects or disabilities because of the ignorance his/ her parents..

Fourth, it can take many years for drug addicts to rehabilitate after breaking their habit.

There is no doubt that smoking is harmful for one's health. However, some scientists claim that smoking sometimes can relax and cause a person to forget about problems which can cause stress-related diseases. It is widely know that stress can have fatal effects on a person's health.

I firmly believe that smoking should be allowed only in certain places. Smoking in public places must be strictly prohibited in order to avoid secondhand smoke. Every packet of cigarettes must have a printed warning stating that smoking can cause cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Advertisements that encourage smoking must be forbidden. Public service announcements against smoking should be regularly broadcasted on TV and the radio.

In conclusion, smoking and drug taking can both have negative effects on a person's health. I think the main argument is that the harm from smoking is largely confined to the user ( except for pregnant smokers). Illicit drugs and alcohol have far more profound societal effects - crime, unemployment, health care costs, familial breakdown etc. Drugs are more dangerous in society and health. Smoking is less dangerous. I believe that people should be warned about the harmful repercussions of smoking but it shouldn't be forbidden like drug are.
