Старший инспектор встречает пассажиров, прилетевших кабульским рейсом. Мне, не повященному в тонкости таможенного контроля, кажется,что он недостаточно внимателен.
Но вдруг я слышу в его голосе иные нотки:
- Откройте Ваш чемодан!
Старший инспектор шепнул мне: "Убежден, что провозится контрабанда" и предложил прибывшему пройти в соседнюю комнату.
Через минуту меня пригласили и туда. Из подпоротой подкладки пиджака на стол с мелодичным звоном посыпались золотые монеты с изображением короля Георга пятого.
- Меня... просили... передать... одному человеку, - невнятно пробормотал пассажир.
Я спросил у инспектора, почему из сотен пассажиров он обратил внимание именно на этого.
Опыт подсказал, определенная выработалась интуиция.

A Customs officer meets people who has arrived by Kabul flight. Because of my not having been let into fine points of a customs clearing, it seems to me that he is not careful enough.
But suddenly I hear different notes in his voice: "Open your suitcase, please!"
The Customs officer whispered in my ear: "I`m sure he brings contraband". Then he proposed that the passenger should go to
the next room.
I was invited there in a minute. From under the unripped lining of his jacket, with melodious ringing, gold coins with the image of King George the Fifth spilled on the table.
"I was... asked... to give them to a man," the smuggler muttered.
I asked the inspector why he had payed attention to just that character although there were hundreds of people there.
"It`s a matter of experience and developped intuition," the Customs officer said.
